State by State Details | solar battery rebates australia

New South Wales (NSW) ⌛

State install discount:

Ended 1 July 2025 (not combinable once the Federal program started).

What remains:

VPP signup incentive (residential demand response) pays an upfront bonus based on usable kWh when you connect your battery to a VPP—can be stacked with the Federal discount. Govt comms indicate up to ~$1,500 for larger systems.

Good to know:

NSW's Peak Demand Reduction Scheme rules now sit alongside the Federal program; eligibility tools and guidance are on the state site.

Victoria ( VIC) ⛔

Status: Solar Victoria battery loans are closed to new applicants (page updated 11 Aug 2025). They now direct households to the Federal CHBP.

Queensland (QLD) ⛔

Battery Booster (state):

Launched 2024 ($3,000–$4,000), but the program is now closed to new applications. If you already had conditional approval, you typically had 90 days to install/claim.

Now:

Households can use the Federal CHBP for the main upfront discount.

South Australia (SA) ⌛

Solar Battery Scheme:

Closed to new applications.

Still available:

SA Virtual Power Plant participation (AGL/Tesla + SA Gov support) and private VPP offers, which can improve payback when combined with the Federal discount.

Western Australia (WA) ✅

WA Residential Battery Scheme (from 1 July 2025):

  • Rebate: Up to $1,300 (Synergy customers, $130/kWh) or $3,800 (Horizon Power customers, $380/kWh). Designed to complement the Federal CHBP.

  • Finance: Interest-free loans up to $10,000 for eligible households to reduce upfront cost.

Australian Capital Territory(ACT) ✅

Sustainable Household Scheme:

0% loans $2,000–$15,000 over up to 10 years; batteries are eligible.

Next Gen Energy Storage:

Closed (target met). Use SHS loans + Federal CHBP instead.

Note: Concession-holder rebates (Home Energy Support Program) can complement financing for some households.

Tasmania(TAS) ✅

Energy Saver Loan Scheme: Energy Saver Loan Scheme: 0% loans for eligible energy upgrades (including battery storage). No separate state battery rebate; combine the loan with Federal CHBP.

Northern Territory(NT) ⛔

Home and Business Battery Scheme: Home and Business Battery Scheme: Closed after reaching funding cap. Earlier settings included $400/kWh up to $12,000, but no new grants are being approved. Residents can still use Federal CHBP.

Can you stack incentives?

Federal + State: Often yes—for example, NSW VPP bonuses or the WA rebate/loan can stack with the Federal discount. Always check your retailer's quote to ensure stackability is shown on one line itemised as Federal vs State/VPP.

How to maximise your savings (quick checklist)

Right-size usable kWh to your night usage and essential circuits (fridge, lights, modem, garage).

Check stacking (Federal + state/VPP) and confirm who claims the discount (usually the retailer applies it upfront on your invoice).

Quote apples-to-apples: show usable kWh, backup output (kW), warranty years/cycles, VPP terms, and all switchboard works.

Pick approved products & accredited installers (CEC battery list; SAA battery accreditation).
