  • Net effect: a mid-size battery can come thousands cheaper upfront, improving payback by 1–3 years depending on usage and tariff spread.


Example C — Future-proofing for electrification:

  • As households add EVs, heat pumps and induction, evening and overnight demand grows. A battery lets you time-shift more of your rooftop solar, so your home is ready for the all-electric future. (Policy and market bodies expect big savings when VPPs and flexible demand are integrated well.)


6) Buyer’s checklist (2025 edition)

  • Capacity vs. load: Start from your winter evening usage (kWh) and size battery to cover most of it.

  • Backup circuit design: Decide which circuits are essential (lights, fridge, router, garage door, select GPOs).

  • Inverter compatibility: Hybrid vs. AC-coupled; check blackout behaviour and switchover times.

  • Warranty & throughput: Compare years + cycles + throughput (MWh), not just years.

  • VPP terms: Ask about control windows, discharge limits, bill credits, exit fees and data rights (ACCC emphasis).
